Since its inception in 2000, Norvir has become a landmark of exquisite proportions in the center of the city of Norfolk. Before his arrival, the city lacked a place where music lovers of all types could converge and enjoy great national events. Of course, there was the house boats and other small bars in general admission to see live music, but none had what Norv has to offer, so its creation almost unprecedented for the theater is remembered area. The an old theater, large movie you might have seen in the 1950's. Large chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, and balcony space covers the walls of the second floor. The theater brings in all kinds of music, from soul to punk, rap, indie rock, country pop, and beyond. Norvir has something for everyone, with a full drink menu to boot. The sound in the Norv is one of the best in the East Coast, and anyone who has been to places like Washington, DC 930 Club or other places of note will tell you that the sound exceeds most of them. There are, of course, falls to the sites of such a large scale. For example, drink prices are overwhelming, with beer ranging from five dollars or more, and mixed drinks cost even more. The service is less than outstanding, and safety can be a bit intimidating. Norvir is a place for non-smokers, which means that smokers are forced to huddle outside in a "plume" of all kinds between sets. The advantage of the outdoor area is that some seats are provided, and there is usually an outdoor bar to supplement what they can avoid going in and out for drinks. One can complain that the price of tickets for shows at the Norv is a bit expensive, but keep in mind that almost all the shows sold Ticketmaster locations, ie, the place has no control over costs entry. Sometimes the host local bands Norv for a much cheaper price. While there are some disadvantages, usually people of Norfolk are happy to have a prestigious venue, the contribution of the acts that usually do not intend to stop here. This, combined with great sound, great atmosphere and a great energy surrounding the Norv make it one of the most important monuments and notable Norfolk to come over the years.

“What made this trouble pretty much go away for decades was the availability of very effective, long-lasting insecticides that were cheap, affordable and available not only to pest control companies but to consumers over the counter,” he said. He recently conducted a study comparing older pesticides to those used today. He found insecticides in two families, organophosphites and carbamates, are especially effective at eradicating bedbugs. some of these compounds can be found in insect traps or spot treatments, most are no longer permitted for use by pest-control professionals in North America, according to Mr. Goldman.

Back in December 2010 a lawyer at a Community Board SLA meeting told us that the Cooper Square Hotel was “very close” to being by the same folk who run the SoHo and TriBeCa Grands. And while that deal fell through it has now emerged that the hotel actually did change hands that month. In fact, it was taken over by Westport Capital in an “amicable” loan restructuring the same day they announced the Grand deal was donzo.

The Real Deal reports that the hotel was transfered to Westport on December 27, 2010, in a deal worth $70.9 million dollars. The hotel had been in financial troubles for almost a year, when commercial lender WestLB filed to foreclose on $52 million in loans leaving Dubai-on-the-Bowery in restructuring negotiations ever since.

Besides losing Faustina and adding new restaurant Trilby, as far as we can tell not much has changed in the 145-room hotel under its new owners. According to the hotel, March room rates are “averaging around $300 per night with 85 percent occupancy, with rates expected to rise into the mid-$300 range over the summer and $400s in the fall.”

But what we really want to know is if the underwear will be back up this spring.

Im bout to change my Avi to a shiless jawn for da summer!!!

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – Verizon Wireless stated today the company has updated its V CAST Music app, enabling Android™ smartphone customers to get and enjoy the music they want easily and at lower prices.  For the first time, V CAST Music brings full-track songs, ringtones and ringback tones together in one easy-to-use application.

The new version of V CAST Music, available on Android smartphones running Android 2.1 or higher, lets customers full-track songs in high-quality MP3 format without DRM.

V CAST Music will now also offer full-track songs for 69 cents, 99 cents or $1.29 per song, which can be downloaded over the air to a smartphone, and then easily moved to a personal or other MP3-compatible device using V CAST Media Manager.

Apple is reportedly in talks with major record companies to begin offering unlimited music downloads of music, enabling iTunes customers to sync their music libraries across different Apple devices.

Bloomberg reports that the Cupertino-based company is negotiating with Vivendi SA, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and EMI Group, to remove restrictions on music, allowing for greater flexibility in how tracks are accessed. With iTunes by far the most popular digital music download service, both Apple and the music labels are hoping to maintain demand whilst offering customers more control over the content they buy.

Sources the deal would allow music to be downloaded to Macs, iPods, iPad and iPhone devices, as long as they were linked to the same iTunes account, moving Apple closer to the rumoured cloud-based platform that analysts have long associated the company with building.

If a deal could be reached, the service would be expected to roll out in the middle of this year.

A new central music service could be incorporated into Apple’s refreshed MobileMe platform, which the company is rumoured to be making free after it emerged it would only be available online-only from now on. The platform users to backup photos, emails and contacts but could also be adapted to deliver centrally stored music.

Apple and the music labels have declined to comment on the matter so reports are still speculative. Would a centralised music service mean you would purchase more music via iTunes or more Apple products because you knew your music would travel with you? Let us know in the comments.

DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Medical Board will revoking the license of a physician suspected of improperly recommending marijuana to a woman who was 28 weeks pregnant.

Dr. Manuel De Jesus Aquino of Denver could become the first Colorado to lose his license or face a sanction over a medical marijuana recommendation.

The complaint filed this week the 20-year-old woman did not explain she was pregnant, and Aquino thoroughly her or even take any notes on his three-minute evaluation before giving her a pot recommendation in January.

The also did not ask about the woman’s medical history or give her instructions on follow-up care, according to the complaint, which adds that pregnancy should preclude marijuana recommendations.

(STORY CONTINUES BELOW)

Medical Marijuana Filing From AGs Office

Messages left by The Associated Press seeking comment from Aquino and his attorney in the licensing matter were not immediately returned.

The Denver dispensary Back to the Garden Health and Wellness Center, where Aquino worked at the time, declined comment.

Dell said it will acquire Insite One, a developer of medical archiving cloud applications, for an undisclosed price.

The technology to share medical images in the cloud. That enables physicians to share medical images and make swift diagnoses by collaborating with other doctors online. Dell will combine Insite’s archive product with Dell’s own Unified Clinical Archive and DX Object Storage Platform. The platform simplifies storage of images through virtualization technology.

It may seem like a stretch for a personal maker to do this. But Dell is competing fiercely with rivals such as EMC and Hewlett-Packard to become a serious player in cloud and storage services. If the technology works as billed, it could lower costs and improve the quality of care for patients.

Based in Wallingford, Conn., InSite One manages a giant imaging database with more than 3.6 billion medical images. That’s a lot of of broken arms and what not. Medical image data is expected to grow 35 percent a year to 2.6 million terabytes by 2014, according to market researcher Enterprise Storage Group.

Lately im interested in IM

Digital marketing budgets are expected to increase steadily during the next few years, according to Datran Media’s Annual Marketing & Media Survey, which reaches out to more than 5,000 marketing executives from Fortune 500 brands, top publishers, and leading advertising and media agencies.

This is good news for those of you hoping to break into the digital marketing industry. Whether you’re passionate about search, affiliate, social media, or another area of marketing, there are a few things you can do to prove your worthiness to prospective employers.

We asked five industry insiders about their top tips for aspiring digital marketers. Find their below and add your own in the comments.

1. Get Hands-On Marketing Experience

A degree in marketing or communications can take you a distance, but most employers are looking for candidates with marketing experience, whether that’s from a previous job, internship or side project. If you already have work experience in the marketing world, congratulations. For the rest of you, internships or other projects will be key.

“Any hands-on involvement with campaign creation, analytics, or optimization can be extremely beneficial to aspiring digital marketers,” states Traci Kuiphoff, on the web marketing manager at BareNecessities.com. “If you’re in school or a recent grad, the best way to gain experience is to do an internship at a company or bureau that has a department or focus in or digital marketing. Not only do you get real world hands-on experience, but it’s also great to put on your resume when you’re ready for a full-time position.”

If you are in college, look for paid or for-school-credit marketing internships at your college’s job fairs, via job search sites, and on social media sites. You could even land your next gig through Twitter.

If you don’t land an internship or find a position of interest, create your own project or enter a marketing contest. While studying marketing and international business at NYU Stern’s Undergraduate School of Business, a classmate and I entered the John Caples Student Campaign of the Year contest and created a digital marketing campaign for Pentel. Our campaign included a mix of digital, social and direct marketing communications, along with thoroughly gathered success metrics. Not only did we first place, which included summer internships and a money prize, but we also met industry experts who have acted as mentors to us.

2. Know the Lingo

Being able to examine marketing campaigns and understand what worked or didn’t is the key role of a digital marketer — in order to do that, you’ll need to know (and love) the industry jargon.

“Understanding metrics on the web is key,” states Naishi Zhang, assistant marketing manager at Barnes & Noble. “The Internet provides so many ways of examining user behavior, and knowing how to gather and interpret data is important for success. Read widely and learn the lingo, so when someone asks about the CTR of a banner ad or the number of page views a landing page received, you’ll be ready.”

Mastering marketing terminology and metrics, and knowing what they mean, will take time and practice, but you can get a basic knowledge by picking up a marketing 101 textbook or attending an introductory course. Check out local college or continuing education courses. If that isn’t an option, the InternetInternet is at your disposal. About.com’s glossary of marketing terms and HubSpot’s glossary of social media marketing terms are both very useful for beginners, and you should also read some of the top marketing blogs to get your daily fill of information.

3. Nurture Your Personal On the web Presence

Rick Bakas, director of social media marketing at St. Supéry Vineyards and Winery stated he believes a person’s on the internet presence can be a major deciding factor on whether an aspiring digital marketer makes the cut for a job. “If an employer is deciding between two candidates,” he notes, “they might go with the person with the strong following online. Build your personal brand online. You have to show you can build your personal brand if you’re going to build someone else’s.”

Your personal brand is value-added in the job market.

“Your clout is sometimes referred to as ’social currency,’” he continues. “In other words, there’s a value associated with your personal brand. Increased value carries as much weight as a great resume. A high Klout.com score for example, will help you stand out and validate what your resume states about you.”

Your Klout score is a number between 0 and 100 that measures the size of your engaged audience, the likelihood that they will amplify your messages, and your overall influence within your network. Bigger isn’t always better. Bakas explains, “Aspiring marketers would do well to grow an engaged on the web following, not necessarily a big online following. Again, Klout.com is a great tool to evaluate the strength of your on the web presence.”

4. Dabble in Everything, Specialize in Something

There isn’t just one career path in marketing. You can to work for an agency, with an in-house team, or your own firm. There are multiple marketing disciplines, including affiliate, search, social media, e-mail, mobile, and display marketing, to name a few. Teams come in all sizes — some in which teammates specialize in certain areas, and others where a team can be composed of just one stellar know-it-all.

The best way to get a taste of all of the options is to dabble in a bit of everything. “Digital marketing experience can be extremely valuable — at an you can be exposed to all avenues of digital marketing from paid search, social media, mobile and everything in between,” Kuiphoff advises. ”Most likely, you’ll touch a number of different accounts which can help you select a vertical focus or specialty.”

Once you have a base knowledge in each area of marketing, you’ll be superior equipped to a more specific path of focus. Having a specialty enables you to hone your skills in that area and become an expert, which is a valuable asset to potential employees.

5. Attend Industry Meetups and Conferences

“Put the ’social’ in social media and spend time engaging with people in the real world,” Bakas says. “Go to lots of events to create or nurture quality interactions that can later continue online. Use plancast.com to see which upcoming events are worth going to. These experiences are ripe with opportunities to meet other digital marketers. The strongest relationships are the ones nurtured and offline.”

Kuiphoff adds, “Digital marketing conferences not only provide a great networking opportunity, but most offer in-depth workshops that can enhance your skill set.”

Some worthwhile conferences to consider include SXSW, Search Marketing Expo, Web 2.0 Expo, Ad Age Digital Conference, ad:tech, Search Engine Strategies and Pivot.

If you’re not into the hustle and bustle of industry conferences, you can consider a more toned-down approach by attending or organizing your own Meetups. There are thousands of marketing Meetups around the world. The NY Entrepreneurs Business Network and San Francisco Entrepreneur Meetup are two of the largest.

6. Keep a Pulse on the News

Because of the nature of the Internet, digital marketing is ever-changing. If you don’t keep up with the latest trends and news, it shows in interviews and on the job. Sarah Hofstetter, SVP of emerging media and client strategy at digital marketing bureau 360i, says it well:

“Remember that standing still is going backwards. Yes, it’s an adage that has been used for years to inspire ambition, but it is blatantly obvious in the digital landscape. Not only does that technology evolve at a lightening pace that transcends Moore’s law, but consumer behavior is shifting at a radical pace, and media consumption becomes more and more fragmented.

“Being on top of consumer behavior –- understanding what they’re doing online, what motivates them and their social and mobile behavior –- and staying ahead of that by learning what’s in the market and what’s on the come, will help ensure you don’t get stuck on the sidelines when interviewing for jobs in digital marketing.”

Kuiphoff subscribing to industry blogs and newsletters to stay on top of the latest news. Some of my personal favorites include Ad Age, ClickZ, eMarketer, BrandWeek and AdWeek.

7. Get Technical

You won’t be coding programs or building full websites as a digital marketer, but you will need to work with developers and designers or other web specialists to communicate your marketing design needs. A basic knowledge of how the web works, HTML, and one or two programming languages, such as PHPPHP, JavaScript, CSS and Ruby, will help you the current boundaries and opportunities that will affect your marketing campaigns.

“It’s important for anyone working in the digital world, whether it’s marketing or designing features for a product, to have a basic understanding of coding,” advocates Dharmishta Rood, a research assistant at Harvard Business School and fellow at the Center for Future Civic Media at MIT. “There are great experiential benefits from understanding the underlying technologies that shape what we do online — it’s easier to comprehend how users can interact with content, what is possible for design with things like CSS and JavaScript, and the nuances of basic technical terminology.”

8. Perfect Your Resume

Everyone needs a resume; what you do with it is up to you. To help you stand out, here are a few tips from our digital marketing experts:

  • “Demonstrate that you can produce results and work in a fast-paced environment, whether you’ve had previous digital experience or not. Don’t be afraid to include things about yourself that may not be directly related to the job. Resumes get scanned quickly, so it always helps to inject something creative and clever.” — Naishi Zhang, assistant marketing manager, Barnes & Noble
  • “One way you can make your resume stand out is to get certified. GoogleGoogle has a certification program for Adwords. If you have a paid search marketing focus this can help assure a client/employer that you’re proficient in the system.” — Traci Kuiphoff, on the web marketing manager, BareNecessities.com
  • “I’m a massive believer in making sure your resume is on LinkedInLinkedIn, and to have suggestions on LinkedIn. asking for suggestions soon. LinkedIn is like your digital resume. Make sure the facts match up. Also, Google your name to see what comes up — your prospective employers will.” — Rick Bakas, director of social media marketing, St. Supéry Vineyards and Winery
  • “Use keywords to describe your previous experience that make sense for the specific job you’re applying for — if the job description or department does ’social media outreach’ and your description of all those TwitterTwitter @replies, FacebookFacebook messages and moderated blog post comments is currently called ‘customer service,’ this does not play up your strengths as a digital marketer. Use common sense though. If their keywords don’t match your experience, don’t write anything untruthful, and consider doing things to get the types of experience for the jobs you want, such as volunteering to help with the social media of a non-profit whose cause you support.” — Dharmishta Rood, research assistant, Harvard Business School

To showcase your skills alongside multimedia and other on the web assets, check out some digital alternatives to the paper resume, including video resumes, VisualCVs, social resumes and LinkedIn profiles.

9. Let Curiosity and Passion Drive You

“Sure, it’s great to know about Facebook, iAds and whatever is coming next from Silicon Valley,” Hofstetter points out, “but when we’re looking for key talent at 360i, nothing matters to us more than intellectual curiosity and passion…In a business where answers and solutions aren’t always obvious, you need to be innately curious (about everything) and obsessed with the ‘why’ behind the ‘what.’ ”

It may sound cheesy at first, but she has a point. Without inquisitiveness and zeal, we’re just work drones on a mission to take over the Internet. Plus, these traits have a positive effect on the way we work, Hofstetter says:

“People who have these qualities can innovate and identify trends from seemingly ordinary data — they’re the first to try new things (platforms, tools, technology) and think about how marketers can benefit from them. They don’t always have the answers, but when you’re being asked to do never-been-done-before things, there isn’t a rulebook. That’s why when we’re recruiting, we look for people who know how to ask the right questions.

10. Unplug for Your Sanity

Staring at a personal screen all day long can take a toll on your body, mind and social life. Get away from that monitor and breathe for crying out loud!

Bakas recommends getting out every once in a while to work on who you are as a person outside of work. “Because transparency is important, it’s important to be a good person in the real world,” he says. “It’ll translate into the digital world — you can’t fake being a good person if you’re a jerk in real life. Unplug for your own sanity, but also to continue growing as a person in life.”

I second that. Now, get out of here and get a job.

Where was feeling ?

Despite the romanticized myth of BFF, the hard truth is that most friendships don't last forever. In fact, research suggests that when it comes to friendships, a phenomenon occurs that is somewhat akin to the seven-year itch: Half of our close friendships turn over every seven years.

Women are reluctant to speak about their friendship issues which turn out to be quite common: losing friends, having unfulfilling friendships, or having no friends at all. Just like other life-affirming relationships that we treasure–relationships with lovers, husbands, siblings, children, and pets–our closest friendships tend to be imperfect. Friendships are fraught with disappointments and misunderstandings—resulting in some of the highest highs and the lowest lows of our emotional lives.

Remember Anne of Green Gables, the lonely orphan who never had a bosom buddy until she met her neighbor, Diana? Anne instantly realized she had found a soulmate in Diana. But as Anne grew up and her world expanded, the foundation of her once perfect friendship with Diana collapsed, paving the way for the next phase in her life. Given all the transitions that that take place in the lives of women (moving, mating, mothering and managing careers, just to name a few), it's not surprising that friendships fray. Anne's story is universal; as people grow and change, their paths diverge. Friends drift apart and even kindred spirits may find themselves circling in different orbits.

The sense of trust, energy and connection we feel with a best friend is exhilarating, but when that friendship begins to erode or drift away, the sense of unease, discomfort, or loss is palpable. So what can you do to mend a broken friendship? Here are some tips for getting over the inevitable bumps:

1) Communicate

There's a wall of silence between you. She answering your text messages or voicemails, and is ignoring your Facebook comments. You seen each other for a week and you used to talk every day. What do you do? Summon up the courage to start a dialogue. If there is any hope of mending the friendship, you need to find out what's wrong and resolve it. Sending an email or snail mail (note or card) to your friend, telling her you miss her and want to talk, gives her a chance to respond without being caught off-guard.

2) Apologize

If you know it was you who said or did something wrong–or who didn't do or state something you should have, own up to the mistake. Apologize sooner rather than later because time has a way of making tiny fester. Of course, if you have a recurrent case of foot-in-the-mouth syndrome, this isn't going to work.

3) Forgive

Conversely, if you were the one who was wronged and the friendship is important to you, consciously decide to forgive your friend in order to save the friendship. Try to think about what happened from her perspective and accept her apology. If her behavior is consistently ambivalent and unpredictable, forgiveness may not be the right fix.

4) Take a break

You've approached your friend to sort out the and you have been ignored or rebuffed. Perhaps your friend needs more time to get over her anger and disappointment. Propose that you NOT see each other for two weeks or a month. Maybe you need time apart (what I call a friendship sabbatical) to realize how much you mean to each other. On the other hand, you both may breathe a sigh of relief during the trial separation.

5) Downgrade

Maybe your expectations of each other are a mismatch at this time. Perhaps, you need to establish boundaries: Tell her you need more space for yourself and more time with others. Maybe your relationship is based primarily on shared history and your lives have grown too disparate to remain besties. Gradually downgrade to a casual, once-in-a-while friendship. Make the change with grace and respect, leaving the door open for reconnecting in a different way at a different time.

Admittedly, fixing a broken friendship is never simple or because the rules of friendships aren't clear. Compounding the problem, women are often or ashamed to speak about friendship problems. If they to men, they're likely to be accused of catfighting. If they to other women, opening up about another friend may be seen as a betrayal. As a result, friendship troubles often remain the dirty little secret that nobody talks about.

Created by psychologist, author, and professor of psychiatry Dr. Irene S. Levine, TheFriendshipBlog.com is the only authoritative place on the world wide web for women to anonymously ask and receive advice about their friendship problems and dilemmas. Her most recent book, Best Friends Forever: Surviving a Breakup With Your Best Friend is based on an on the internet survey of more than 1500 women (anonymous, of course).

In Touch Weekly’s cover story this week seems extremely dated. I’m pretty sure In Touch and other tabloids have done the same story many times over the past five years, and ITW just changed the dates and a few specifics. The basics: Angelina Jolie is pissed off because… does she need a reason? Sigh. She’s always pissed off, in Tabloidville. She’s a very angry, bitter, nasty, contemptuous person, in Tabloidville. Anyway, Angelina’s “reason” for being angry this week is that Jane Pitt, Brad’s mother, still has an ongoing friendship with Jennifer Aniston. Because of this – and because Jane Pitt might be telling Aniston all about what’s going on in Brad and Angelina’s relationship – Angelina has decided that Jane should not babysit her children. Here’s an excerpt from ITW:

Angelina Jolie had initially planned to take a solo trip to Budapest to scout locations for her upcoming film — leaving all six of her kids at home with her partner, Brad Pitt, and his parents, Bill and Jane. Yet when Angelina was spotted in the Hungarian city on August 21, she had her twins Knox and Vivienne, 2, in tow. Posing for pictures with the toddlers, she looked happy as could be.

But behind the scenes, a friend says, Angelina, 35, had other things on her mind. According to the friend, the main reason she took the twins to Eastern Europe was to upset Jane — whose ongoing friendship with Brad’s ex-wife Jennifer Aniston has Angelina seeing red.

“Angie strongly thinks that the past is the past, and Jennifer and Jane should let each other go because their friendship is disrespectful,” the friend explains. “Angie had been complaining to Brad that it’s weird for his mother to talk to his ex-wife, but Brad just brushed it off. So she decided she didn’t want Jane watching over the twins.”

Very close to Jen during her marriage to Brad, Jane seemed to take the place of Jen’s estranged mother. And that apparently hasn’t changed since the divorce. Another pal states Jane and Jen still at least once a month and maintain a very strong bond.

“Jane still thinks of Jennifer as a daughter,” states a pal. “She knows that Angelina isn’t happy about the friendship, but that doesn’t stop her from keeping Jen in her life.”

Jen, in turn, “consults Jane on everything from major to romance to her career.” And Jane confides in Jen, as well. To Angelina, who has not always seen eye to eye with Jane, the friendship is like a slap in the face. Angelina feels that she — not Jen — should take precedence with his parents.

Blaming Brad’s ex even more than his mother, Angelina is intent on sending Jen a message: Keep away from my family. And she’s been sending that message through Jane. It’s making it very difficult for Jane, who “cherishes her friendship with Jennifer,” Jane has known Jen for more than 10 years and resents being asked to stop talking to her.

“They care about each other,” the friend says. “Jane has never kept it a secret. She doesn’t see why she has to cut off that connection.” And Brad tends to with his mother. “He thinks Jane is a grown woman and she should be able to do what she wants.”

[From In Touch Weekly]

First of all, I don’t purchase this dynamic AT ALL. I think Jane probably does still talk to Jennifer, and whatever, you know? I also think that Brad’s parents probably get along with Angelina very well – Angelina has spent a lot of time with the Pitts, and everybody seems to adore the kids/grandkids. But, for argument’s sake, let’s say that ITW is on to something and that Angelina is disturbed by Jane and Jennifer’s relationship. I think that Jane has every right to still have a relationship with Jennifer. But I also think Angelina has every right to state who looks after her kids. Sure, it sounds like Angelina is using the as leverage with Jane… but if Jane is a blabbermouth, I could it. Eh.
